Sefcovic: Europa bereid tot concessies

De Europese Unie is bereid om de importheffingen op auto’s en andere industriële goederen vanuit de VS op te heffen. Dit zei eurocommissaris Maroš Šefčovič maandag na afloop van een bijeenkomst van de Europese ministers van Handel in Luxemburg.
“Vanaf de eerste dag was mijn insteek zinvolle onderhandelingen”, benadrukte Šefčovič.
Beide kampen zijn volgens Sefcovic overtuigd dat een frisse blik op de handelsrelatie gunstig kan uitpakken voor beide regio’s.
“We hebben nul voor nul tarieven voorgesteld voor auto’s en industriële goederen”, zei Sefcovic.
“We zijn bereid aan tafel te gaan zitten zodra onze Amerikaanse collega’s hier klaar voor zijn. Wij prefereren duidelijk onderhandelingen”, aldus de eurocommissaris.
